Road to Ruins Festival Il cast al completo

27/04/2005 - Fun House e la Rave Up Records vi invitano a partecipare alle due serate del "Road to Ruins" Festival: sabato 30 aprile e domenica 1 maggio si esibiranno presso il Circolo degli Artisti a Roma veri e propri gruppi "cult" come The Kids, Big Balls and The Great White Idiot e i leggendari Crime di San Francisco. Le esibizioni saranno precedute da dibattiti e video-proiezioni (tra cui la prima nazionale del film documentario sui Ramones, "End of the Century" di Michael Gramaglia e Jim Fields e "The New Flowers of Beijing", dedicato al punk cinese, di Lisa Partby), mentre negli spazi attigui alla sala concerti principale verranno allestiti stand promozionali, di vendita merchandising, dischi e libri che saranno aperti sino a tarda serata. A seguito dei concerti saranno operative due postazioni DJ’s con i migliori rock set italiani ed internazionali: Fabio Luzietti da Roma, Kike Turmix da Madrid e Thomas Savage da Stoccolma. Durante i due giorni, inoltre, l’emittente locale Radio Città Futura ospiterà nei suoi studi i principali artisti del festival per interviste ed approfondimenti vari. NAVICON TORTURE TECHNOLOGIES - "All I Want To Hear Is The Sound Of My Own Heart Stopping."

NTT è uno dei nomi di maggior spessore nell'attuale scena power-electronics americana, fautore di un suono originale che è allo stesso tempo abrasivo, devastante e melodico che fonda le proprie radici nelle inquietudini e nei tormenti personali del suo responsabile Lee 'Leech' Bartow. Amore, odio, frustrazione, tormento, nichilismo, auto-annullamento... tutto questo è Navicon Torture Technologies.
Dopo aver pubblicato svariati cd e cd-r per etichette quali Malignant, Eibon, Blade, Cranial Fracture, Mouth Records etc. NTT propone ora un doppio cd-r di materiale registrato tra il 2001 ed il 2003 durante sei delle sue migliori incursioni live, impreziosito da due tracce/remix in collaborazione con Skincage e Nothing. Misty Circles / Musica Di Un Certo Livello - 2005

The debut release of this new extraordinary band comes as a joint effort by Misty Circles and Musica Di Un Certo Livello (which you will remember for the bizarre "Flesh Gets Wasted And Dogs Get Angry" sampler). Vri-il is a sort of music collective exploring dark, ritual and mysterious alchemies. This self-titled professional CDr features five tracks plus one hidden ghost track.

The titles of the songs seem to be written in a strange and forgotten alien language, and the same feeling of ancient and eerie is evoked by the music. "Mu'ner'rei" is a great industrial song, recalling early Einstürzende Neubauten with its metal percussions and skeletal bass riffs, while the vocals alternate Blixa-like screams to a deep Douglas P.-style recital. "Floe Défi" melts heavy percussions, metal clings, electronic bubbling and dark, dramatic melodies, at one time reminding of early Psychic TV or Rosemary's Baby.

"Beell" is an instrumental track, built around cosmic electronic sceneries, bells and tickings, something comparable even to Magma or the most morbid kraut rock. "Aquarium", quite appropriately, sounds like it was recorded underwater, and can be described as a cross between the oddest Pink Floyd and a sort of industrial psychedelia. Ghost track "Hei Hei Hei Hai Hai Hai" seems to come directly from the '80s, with its minimal floor of electronic beats and the distant, filtered voice repeating a sort of ritual spell.

Influences must be thousand on Vri-il's music, but their style is very well defined and personal. I sense these songs are just the starting point for an eclectic style that can develop in countless different directions. While eagerly waiting for more excellent music from Vri-il, don't miss this a tasteful teaser of their ability.

The CDr comes inside a DVD-size box with an effective dark blue and black artwork. The naked woman's silhouette on the front cover makes me think of an ebony statue potraying an ancient pagan female deity.

ENSOPH: due album in arrivo



Dopo essersi fatti conoscere come una delle migliori band esordienti con il sorprendente Opus Dementiae del 2004, gli Ensoph sono di nuovo al lavoro per l'uscita di due nuovi progetti: The Hourglass Ordalia e Project X-kàton. Si tratta di due album completamente distinti che celebreranno da due diverse prospettive il loro multiforme universo artistico.

The Hourglass Ordalia sarà un capitolo veramente speciale della loro produzione.

Si tratta di un tributo alla parte più sperimentale del loro suono, in cui saranno accompagnati dalla crema delle scena industriale e avanguardista italiana. I partecipanti al progetto sono niente meno che Void Of Silence (l'ultimo contributo firmato da questa immensa realtà), Thee Maldoror Kollective, Canaan, Wertham/Foresta Di Ferro, Ain Soph, Argine, Ait! e Bad Sector. I nomi di certo non hanno bisogno di presentazione.

L'album verrà stampato in 777 copie in formato Super Jewel Box - e preparatevi al disco più interattivo che abbiate mai visto...


Sull'altro versante, il gruppo sta lavorando al vero successore di Opus Dementiae: Project X-kàton.

Le registrazioni inizieranno in Giugno agli HeartBeat Studios, per poi concludere la fase di mixaggio all'Outer Sound Studios di Giuseppe Orlando dei Novembre. Al disco collaborerà Steve Sylvester dei leggendari Death SS, ma si parla anche di altre prestigiose comparse. Restate sintonizzati per ulteriori informazioni...

Madre Tortura Richard Benson 1999, ignota Prog L'album che mi accingo a recensire è sicuramente meritevole d'attenzione vista la natura quantomeno bizzarra e paradossale del suo autore: Richard Benson. Per molti questo nome risulterà sconosciuto, altri forse lo avranno sentito abbinato allo spettacolo piuttosto che a contesti musicali. Ebbene occorre fare una premessa sull'artista in questione prima di avventuraci ad esaminare la sua ultima fatica. Richard Benson (vero nome Riccardo Bensoni) è artista a tutto tondo: chitarrista, cantante, attore, doppiatore televisivo, intrattenitore, presentatore e critico in una trasmissione musicale su di una piccola emittente romana. La peculiarità intrinseca nel suo essere poliedrico è data dalla costante scarsezza di risultati che riesce ad ottenere in ognuna delle branche intraprese. In questa sede ci soffermeremo principalmente sul suo aspetto musicale ed, appunto, sul suo ultimo album : Madre Tortura. La title track si presenta come una ripetitiva e piuttosto sterile canzone di critica alla religione ed alla corruzione ecclesiastica. Benson qui si limita a cantare su di una base o poco più, scandendo i suoi testi imitando palesemente il timbro di Renato Zero. Unica nota positiva in questa traccia è la recitazione dell'autore ( decisamente di stampo teatrale) e un riff di tastiera cupo e malinconico piuttosto azzeccato. Appena però Benson tenta l'assolo ci si accorge della sua estrema approssimazione come esecutore: scale sbagliate, sbavature, ritmiche non rispettate, suoni indesiderati pioveranno tra un arpeggio e l'altro per un'interminabile nenia di nove minuti e trentatrè secondi. Seconda traccia: Benson si cimenta in un Blues dal titolo "C'è ancora un colore nella notte". Sarebbe scorretto criticare a priori il suo tentativo di percorrere questa via: si nota infatti una certa intuizione nel trasporto che riesce a creare per pochi istanti grazie ad alcune sequenze piuttosto comuni ma gradevoli, prorogativa di questo genere musicale. La speranza svanisce quando Benson inserisce fiumi di note (di cui molte indistinguibili e fuori contesto), imitando in pessima maniera i "blues" con contaminazioni neoclassiche di Malmsteen. A questo punto si fa necessaria una ulteriore precisazione sulla tecnica di questo chitarrista. Per raggiungere un'elevata velocità, Benson si dichiara inventore di un metodo di plettraggio ( mai opportunamente spiegato nei suoi video didattici) dal nome "pick fall" ( tradotto con : caduta del plettro). Dietro i suoi confusi e sconclusionati assoli troviamo quindi questa tecnica che consente rapidità a discapito della precisione. La terza traccia " Gerarchie Inferali" è forse quella in cui l'artista dimostra maggiore padronanza e sicurezza: si tratta in fatti di una brano da lui recitato in totale assenza di musica. Si nota subito una grande attenzione ai testi ( si tratta di una poesia di denuncia contro religione e ipocrisia in senso lato. Tuttavia, la natura ermetica delle sue parole lascia grandi dubbi su quale fosse l'intento principale, oltre allo shockare l'ascoltatore). Dopo questo inconsueto interludio eccoci ritornarnare nel vivo dell'opera di Benson: quarta traccia dal titolo "Adagio in Re". Qui abbiamo la prova tangibile che il chitarrista ha serie difficoltà anche a suonare mantenendo ritmiche elementari, che nulla hanno a che vedere col metal progressive che tanto spesso asserisce di suonare. La natura cacofonica del brano fa pensare a un chitarrista alle prime armi, non certo a un veterano sulla soglia dei quarant'anni con svariati video didattici alle spalle. Il riff orecchiabile viene eseguito spesso male e mascherato dalla velocità di un impacciato "pick fall" ( anche qui sporcature a profusione e suoni indesiderati guarniscono la banalità del pezzo, ancora una volta eccesivamente prolisso e ripetitivo). Le tracce cinque, sei e sette sono a mio avviso una dichiarazione di superbia e autocompiacimento nonchè riempitivo dell'album: si tratta infatti di basi delle prime tre canzoni per suonare i brani di Benson , come se questi avesse realmente qualcosa da insegnare a dei chitarristi alle prime armi. Un album meno che mediocre, che dedica tuttavia una certa attenzione ai testi ed alla loro recitazione. Un'esecuzione pessima e qualche timida idea (anche se spesso banale ed non sviluppata oltre la mera intuizione) non giustificano a mio avviso l'acquisto di questo scarso prodotto.

THE SILENT PISTOLS

The prize for this year's craziest release has been won by this new Misty Circles output. The Silent Pistols is a mysterious art band from Rome, formed in 1992 with the intent to subvert the entertainment. Chronicles report that, with a devastating concert of metal percussions and industrial cacophony, they caused a club to shut down.

The discography of these mad sound terrorists is quite outstanding: their debut was a 12" vinyl titled "The Screaming Noise Of Silence", dating back to 1992. The wax was completely blank, nothing to be listened at all. This unique release was followed by "N.U.L.L.A.", a 7" sleeve with nothing inside. Finally, the third output "Your Name Your Number (from A to Z)" came as an address book, with the possibility to personalize each copy.

After so much weirdness, The Silent Pistols are now back with a new destabilizing product: "Hush! They Can Hear You (NothingNadaNienteNiente MegaRaveHyperMix) ", coming as a translucent fake CD, one of those you find at the bottom of CDrs cylindrical packs! Useless to say that, again, there is nothing to be listened, although I have put it inside the CD player to make sure it hadn't been burnt with a new revolutionary technology...

We are in front of the extreme consequence of "The Sound Of Free Speech", those 2 minutes silence that opened Crass' "The Feeding Of The Five Thousand". Instead of turning up the volume more and more till total cacophony, The Silent Pistols chose to protest and subvert physically eliminating the sound itself. There are, however, rumours about devastating live appearances and "secret concerts", held each year at a precise date (03.03.2003, 04.04.2004, and so on).

Although part of the official Misty Circles catalogue, this piece of (non) art is not for sale, it is freely available to anyone who would like it. If you want to get one copy, you must send an email to the contact address below and give a personal definition that describes the (non) band and their (non) music, plus a postal address where to send the (non) disc. If the definition will result appropriate and interesting, you will receive it, otherwise nothing. The Silent Pistols, of course, won't reply personally to any mail.

p.s: if you want to listen to the only available recording of Silent Pistols’ music, just get the "Flesh Get Wasted And Dogs Get Angry" sampler on Musica Di Un Certo Livello: they appear there with a fantastic industrial / cacophonic version of Kraftwerk's "The Robots"! When and where this fine piece of (non) art was recorded is, useless to say, a mistery.

"Cuore Nero / Morte E Disonore"

Each Ain Soph live performance has the taste of a special and unique event, not just because of the Roman pioneers' well-known reluctance to appear on stage, but also of their habit to give away free exclusive items at concert venues. It was the case of the "Lacrime E Santi" CD single in Rome, December 2002, and now it's time for Vienna 2005.

This new limited and numbered CDr is part of the official Misty Circles catalogue and was given to the first 99 attendants of the concert at The Monastery, in Vienna, last 1st April. Two songs are features on the disc, both recorded live in October 2004 at the "Neo Pop 'n' Folk Congress" organized by Old Europa Cafe in Pordenone (Italy). Only two members of Ain Soph, Spectrae and Steve Stroll, were on stage that night, but one would never tell from the intensity and power of the sound.

First song is the classic anthem "Cuore Nero", which can be heard for the first time on record as sung by Spectrae and played in a more rocking electrified version. The result is outstanding, as the electric riffs and the drumming give even higher intensity to the words. To follow is "Morte E Disonore", from their latest effort "Oktjabr". Another epic ballad about life, death, love and honour, growing in intensity to a final climax of distortion, noise, and notes from Beethoven's "Hymn To Joy". A hymn to Europe?

There are plans to release the whole live recordings of the Ain Soph concert in Pordenone as part of a forthcoming Old Europa Cafe sampler, but apparently these two songs couldn't fit the length and were therefore put on this free CDr. Inquire Misty Circles, maybe they have some spare copies brought back from Vienna.
